NEW ADVOCATE TRAINING
CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Northeast KY, Inc. is in need of volunteers to become advocates for foster children from the communities of Boyd and Carter County.
As a CASA, you will become the voice for a foster child - looking out for their best interests and ensuring their basic needs are met - while most importantly becoming a caring and reliable adult to depend on.

QUICK FACTS ...ABOUT CASA VOLUNTEERS
- Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA's) have the experience to represent the best interest of the child in dependency, neglect and abuse cases.
- CASAs are recognized and regulated by Kentucky statute. See KRS
620.500.550
- CASAs satisfy extensive screening and training requirements, including 30 hours of instruction.
- CASAs serve at the request of the Court.
- CASAs have only 1-2 cases at once.

- Local CASA Programs in Kentucky are established by the Judge of the Family Court or if none, then the Chief District Judge. See KRS 620.505
- There are 20 Local CASA Programs serving over one-third of the counties in Kentucky.
- Local CASA Programs are governed by a local board and managed by a director.
- Local CASA Programs train and supervise volunteers

AMONG THEIR DUTIES:
- Visit the child regularly
- Interview relevant parties.
- Monitor the child's home environment
- Participate in treatment planning conferences
- Attend hearings.
- File Reports
- Help ensure that the Court's Orders are being followed
- Stay engaged until the child is in a safe, permanent home.
